Workshop materials for Open Science and Reproducibility with Quarto, GitHub, and R
The workshop was part of the European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD) 2024 preparatory courses hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (Rostock, Germany).
The students learned how to write a reprodcible report using Quarto and how to use GitHub for basic version control and publishing of their work via GitHub Pages. They used the data from the Scholarly Migration Database and visualised it with
{flowmapblue}R package.
Containers for Computational Reproducibility (2024-06-20)
Workshop materials for Containers for Computational Reproducibility
The workshop was part of the Population and Social Data Science Summer Incubator Program 2024 conducted by me and Esther Denecke organized by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany.
The students learned how to create a GitHub repository that can be executed in the cloud using Binder and how to create a Docker container with RStudio and R of a specific version and with specific archived R packages.
Introduction to GIS and Urban Data (MSc-level 4-day workshop)
- The workshop was conducted in January 2018 and January 2019 for the master’s students of the École d’Urbanisme de Paris at the Université Paris-Est Créteil. In the workshop, students learned the basics of GIS, spatial data analysis, and visualization using QGIS and Paris open data portal. They analysed the spatial distribution of various urban indicators in Paris and its suburbs, including population density, housing stock, number of ticket validations in public transport, and cyclist counts from automated sensors.
